Way to Go!

The Packers find new ways to lose, but there is something consistent in the way they lose and that is bad calls by the head coach.

It is easy for us to second-guess a decision made by McCarthy, but it seems like he makes some bonehead choices that even someone the worst coaches in the NFL don't make.

McCarthy could have used a challenge on the incomplete pass to Lockett, and maybe we aren't talking about the stupidity of trusting your defense to get the ball the back.

What the coach sees his defense get slashed and decides it is a good idea to put his faith in them to win the game? It is a little late in the season for a morale booster for the defense. What they need is a kick in the ass. Mathews is old and slow. The run defense hasn't played a complete game all year.

If you have faith in your defense you go for it on fourth and two and pray to God that they only give up three points, but that is if you have faith in your defense.

That one horrible decision to punt it away and lose the game also shows McCarthy doesn't trust himself to make the right call on offense to get the first down and drive the field for the go-ahead score.  Maybe he is thinking about the coaching job in Cleveland.

Oh, don't forget the mental mistakes being made by players this late in the season is nothing but less than impressive. Injuries seem to happen to the Packers every year but even the staters look out of place. When Seattle defense can rush four and get to the quarterback, well, something is wrong. It doesn't help that the Packers offensive line doesn't seem to know how to handle stunting defensive lineman and they sure as hell don't know how to stay off the ground. Rodgers can't even run for his life without tripping over his guards and center.

If your head coach is an offensive genius and he can't score a touchdown in the second half of a game where he had the lead, well, maybe it is time for someone new to take over and not hope for the team to put it together. A good coach and leader would have them playing like a bunch of professional football players and not the way the Packers are playing right now.

But maybe as fans we should have expected this from a culture where the organization clings to the past. The Packers as an organization likes to stick with their guys. They didn't go very far when it came to a new GM and they are sticking with a coach that knows how to blow leads.

McCarthy only won one Superbowl, and that is impressive, but how he loses games should be the wakeup call to the front office that it is time to change. I don't know if they need to clean house but they need to do something drastic if they want to get back to the Super Bowl.
