And So It Is
The Packers won't be playing in the Super Bowl. It seems numbing to think that is the reality. This was one of the most hyped seasons for the Packers. This was going to be the year they go to the Super Bowl.
Expectations met the 49ers and the outcome of the game was disappointing for everyone that bought into the idea the Packers were going all the way. The problem with that thinking is the Packers didn't do enough to win.
It is fitting the long snapper and punter were the reason for the blocked punt. They had moments this year of total ineptitude, What do you mean when you say you don't kick the ball directly to one of the NFL's best return men? What do you mean when you say block the guy in front of you? What do you mean turn the laces out?
Special teams killed the Packers' Super Bowl dreams a couple times in the past ten years. This year's failure stings more because the reality of Aaron Rodgers not coming back to the Packers is a bigger reality. In the years past, the thought process appeared to be that next year the Packers will get there and win the big game. This year the thought was this is the last chance for Rodgers to bring another Super Bowl home for the Packers. Rodgers didn't deliver on his end.
Jordan Love isn't Aaron Rodgers. The Packers didn't look that good with Love as the quarterback, but that was one game. He didn't have a great game, but it is foolish to think he was horrible. It appears that Love doesn't have the arm strength or accuracy of Rodgers but most quarterbacks don't have that skill. I think that is why there is a level of pessimism not seen in previous years.
We aren't fortune tellers. We aren't NFL general managers. We are football fans. We are blessed with the ability to express opinions and grumble about things we don't like. Aaron Rodgers is probably the best quarterback of his generation and that is with him winning only one Super Bowl, and that is my opinion.
The Packers are blessed with three great quarterbacks. Will there be a fourth? The Packers still have some good players on offense.
