Super Bowl or Bust

There was a lot of talk by Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams about "The Last Dance" and they did this through their social media profiles.  What is more important, winning or personal statistics? If you watch the documentary about the Bulls' last championship you would think that winning would be the right answer. Michael Jordan was one of the best basketball players of his generation. He demanded a lot from his teammates, and that didn't always sit well with his teammates, as evident by what they said in the documentary.  I am not going to argue Jordan didn't care about personal stats, but Jordan had the leadership skills he needed to win a lot of games and to be successful. Aaron Rodgers doesn't seem to have those leadership skills. He seems to like to roll his eyes and the public Rodgers is all we see. The private Rodgers that his teammates see might be more helpful and less condescending.   It is hard to say Davante Adams is Scottie Pippin but without Adams,...

And So It Is

The Packers won't be playing in the Super Bowl. It seems numbing to think that is the reality. This was one of the most hyped seasons for the Packers. This was going to be the year they go to the Super Bowl.  Expectations met the 49ers and the outcome of the game was disappointing for everyone that bought into the idea the Packers were going all the way. The problem with that thinking is the Packers didn't do enough to win.  It is fitting the long snapper and punter were the reason for the blocked punt. They had moments this year of total ineptitude, What do you mean when you say you don't kick the ball directly to one of the NFL's best return men? What do you mean when you say block the guy in front of you? What do you mean turn the laces out? Special teams killed the Packers' Super Bowl dreams a couple times in the past ten years. This year's failure stings more because the reality of Aaron Rodgers not coming back to the Packers is a bigger reality. In the ye...

Being Professional

Green Bay, WI--Poor management decisions trickle down, and the 2018 Packers are a good example of what a team looks like when a bad manager isn't removed soon enough. The Packers culture is a culture of winning, and in 2014 the Packers were exposed at the end of a championship game. Poor coaching and using young players in place of veterans came back to bite them in the butt. Ted Thompson had a choice to make, not an easy choice, and he didn't make it. He didn't remove Mike McCarthy. The head coach got a free pass when there should have been more accountability. Yes, it is easy to say that right now, but who didn't see the failure as a failure of coaching. The Packers did get rid of the players that made the mistakes that cost them a huge lead. But there are reasons to believe that the coach should have been fired after such a debacle. The coach didn't call the right plays to grow the lead and didn't do what good coaches do to win the close games. The Pack...

Way to Go!

The Packers find new ways to lose, but there is something consistent in the way they lose and that is bad calls by the head coach. It is easy for us to second-guess a decision made by McCarthy, but it seems like he makes some bonehead choices that even someone the worst coaches in the NFL don't make.  McCarthy could have used a challenge on the incomplete pass to Lockett, and maybe we aren't talking about the stupidity of trusting your defense to get the ball the back.  What the coach sees his defense get slashed and decides it is a good idea to put his faith in them to win the game? It is a little late in the season for a morale booster for the defense. What they need is a kick in the ass. Mathews is old and slow. The run defense hasn't played a complete game all year. If you have faith in your defense you go for it on fourth and two and pray to God that they only give up three points, but that is if you have faith in your defense. That one horrible decision to...

The NFL Rules

Packers' fans had a rough year last year when Aaron Rodgers was lost for the season. Rodgers broke his collarbone when Anthony Barr landed on him. This hit was legal last year, but this year it might be a foul, and I say might be a foul because the officiating this year hasn't been consistent with their calls. The NFL is standing by the rash of horrible calls in the first three weeks of games. The rash of flags thrown at defenders tackling the quarterback. Why is the quarterback getting such special treatment? Does it have anything to do with the NFL paying quarterbacks a large sum of money? These poor quarterbacks are exposed to some vicious hits that for some reason never get called. A casual fan can't help but notice the inconsistency of the calls that aren't called. Just watch an NFL game and notice how the rules aren't applied equally through the league. I understand the importance of protecting players, but it is football and a game is about tackling, ...
