Packers Waiting on Rodgers

The Packers are waiting on the scans of Aaron Rodgers as their playoff hopes still cling to a glimmer of light.

Without Aaron Rodgers that Packers’ record is

Coach Mike McCarthy said the doctors are reading the scans and will make the call. On Monday, he  said, “I don’t have a clean decision for you.”

Packer Nation has survived two weeks of games that went into overtime. Hundley is not Aaron Rodgers, as McCarthy said, and is playing some of his best football right now if you look at his statistics. That fact should give fans and the team hopes for the upcoming game against the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers have a better defense than the Browns, and will pose a challenge to the Packers as they try to keep winning. Can the Packers win with Hundley? Maybe. Can they win with Aaron Rodgers, Yes? Will the Packers win this weekend?

The argument could be made that Hundley is winning and keeping the Packers’ playoff hopes alive and it is better to rest Aaron Rodgers’ shoulder. It is also better to stick with the hot hand. The Vikings did this when they stuck with Case Keenum. The Vikings could afford to do this because they have a great defense. The Packers rely on Rodgers like the Vikings rely on their defense, so Hundley probably gets benched if Rodgers is healthy.

But just making the playoffs really that important to some fans? The fans need to remember the Packers’ defense hasn’t always played up to its potential this year. The defensive backfield is hurting and with an inconsistent pass rush, the Packers will probably struggle against top caliber teams. With Rodgers, the Packers lost to the Falcons so that is worth thinking about as the Packers will face the Vikings and Panthers.

Any team can win in the playoffs and the Packers have a history of getting hot in December and carrying the momentum into January. The Packers also like their chances if they make it to the postseason because they have a lot more offensive firepower with Rodgers.
